FINED $1.00 EACH
Lewiston, Idaho, Feb. 17-It was a courteous step for the county commissioners of Nez Perce county yesterday to invite the county commissioners of Latah county, who were here for a joint session relating to bridge contracts, to inspect the county building and the county jail and it was courteous and appropriate for sheriff Lydon to accompany the group into the jail to supply the visitors any information desired. But Judge Ben Appleby, Prosecuting Attorney Arthur Baker and Sheriff Tom Lawrence, whose jurisdiction embraces authority granted by fellow prisoners, play no favorites. Lawrence placed the entire delegation under arrest, and Judge Appleby with dignity convened the kangaroo court, while Baker cited the charge as "being in jail without the permission of the inmates." County Commissioner Green started to offer defense, but Baker advised that he had better plead guilty, and the judge had also begun to frown on the big commissioners. With not a ghost of show for a change of venue all finally plead guilty and were "soaked" $1 each. Commissioners Green and Thiessen of Nez Perce county and Commissioners Woodard McIntire of Latah had the money and promptly put up, but Sheriff Lydon had to borrow from one of his deputies before he could be released.
