Seneca, April 21, 1872.

Mr. Editor—I am under the necessity of troubling you with a few remarks on an article emanating from the pen of that oracle of wisdom, E. Killey, gentleman, although in government, sets out to show the cost of the bastion. How well he succeeds in so doing I will leave to your readers to decide for themselves. I shall now confine myself to asking Mr. K. a few questions: 1st. Will you please point out on a County Map, where the difference in distance from Lincoln to Grand Rapids comes in; in the 'rail route' is your term it? 2nd. Where in your article have you shown that the said route was not just on the right course? 3rd. Will you please point out my article of March 23, that portion which you, (with so much gentlemanly refinement,) declare to be untrue? And if I cannot substantiate every word written in the above named article, I shall be willing to be placed before the people of the County as a liar of Mr. Nason: who it is the first have o And one whom I would be very sorry to utter one word of untruth about. Now Mr. K, your suspicions were correct. I have the honor of being a member of the County Board for the last two years; and also one of the committee who went the whole length of the Road, projected by Mr. Nason; and therefore ought to know whereof I write. Allow me to inform you, that the name I bear, is one that no man who hears it need blush for: and with all due respect for the shining light of Lincoln, permit me to subscribe myself. Your most Humble and Obedient Servant, SAMUEL CARROLL.

In your next, please explain what you mean by sinking money in Tamarack swamps. S. C.
