Wisconsin Methodist Preachers.-The Hannibal Weekly Republic, Missouri, edited by Austin Brooks, quoting the resolutions of the Wisconsin Conference on the State of the Country, indulges in billingsgate unworthy a gentleman, to say nothing of a scholar or a Christian. He closed by saying that if President Johnson had been guilty of assassination or rape he would be all right with the Methodist preachers of Wisconsin:
"The time has come when no respectable family should tolerate the loathsome presence of one of these scoundrels-one of these political preachers-in their circle. Watch them-beware of them-have nothing to do with them! They possess neither honor nor honesty-under the cloak of religion they transact villainies which the most degraded pot-house whelp would be ashamed of. Their white cravats command no respect from decent men. Their presence discommodes and disgraces every circle in which they make their appearance. They pass resolutions against the President of the United States. Two years ago these same dirty whelps passed resolutions declaring that any man opposed to the President was a traitor! The traitorous dogs! The infamous scoundrels! It is about time the low hypocrisy of these consummate villains were exposed. If they have any friends, let them raise their dirty heads, that we may know them."
