NEW-YORK, February 23.
Yesterday the illustrious Washington entered his 66th year.
The citizens of this metropolis, with that just admiration and regard for distinguished merit for which they are conspicuously characterized, celebrated the day with cordiality and mutual congratulations. At one o'clock a federal salute resounded to the day of his nativity.
In the evening a numerous and splendid collection of ladies and gentlemen amused themselves with a grand ball at the Tontine Assembly-room, where they partook of a sumptuous repast.—Mr. Baker exhibited, to much advantage, the inimitable portrait of this great man; and while the intrinsic merit of the picture alone presented an admirable specimen of the fine arts for the gratification of the taste connoisseur, recollection naturally called to mind the unparalleled services and eminent virtues of this illustrious age.
The Museum, which abounds with a great and well disposed collection of natural and artificial curiosities, was handsomely illuminated. Mr. Baker's assiduity in collecting and arranging such valuable specimens of nature and art, merits high commendation.
