Georgia is loud and unanimous for Monroe."
The Editor of the Republican, in further commenting upon this assertion of his correspondent at Washington, that "Old Virginia has reigned long enough," breaks forth into the following "enlarged sentiment: "As to local divisions, southern or northern predilections, Virginia, N. York or Georgia pretensions, they are as disgraceful as they are impudent. Our president be a good citizen and a wise statesman, who cares whether he lives beyond the Mississippi, or on the borders of Canada, or in any intermediate situation?
The Marietta (Ohio) Messenger avers as its serious belief, that "three-fourths of Ohio are convinced of the propriety of nominating James Monroe, as President, and Daniel D. Tompkins, as Vice-President."
The New-York Patriot of the 23d, (which has been hitherto vehement in its opposition to Col. Monroe,) acquiesces in the nomination at Washington, and avers that "the decision has now taken place," and that "the same fidelity to the Republican party, and the same disinterested zeal for the public good, which once induced us to wish it might be otherwise, now dictates a cheerful acquiescence." "And as far as the humble but well-meant arguments and endeavors of this press can extend, they will be exerted in favor of the recommendation of the majority."
