If there is any American who can wish that The British Invasion of America had terminated in our subjugation; let that same American, with the poor Irishmen may never throw off the yoke of British protection; and that all the world by sea and land may be as tranquil as the well governed people of India.
We anxiously fear their efforts will be ineffectual. The myrmidons of tyranny are always alert and disciplined. Ireland can never rise, in the majesty of freedom. Abandoned to fate she must soon lie down in despair; and bless the arm that grinds her in the dust.
What have the poor Irish ever done to offend Britain or any other power And why are they not entitled to independence? Their only crime is they cannot defend themselves from their protectors.
The energies of despair must now serve them instead of a standing army! or they must be down forever.
