Full Text

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 29.

Last week, two persons blind with cataracts were couched by Dr. Graham, oculist and Aurist in this City. One of these, a gentleman advanced in years was couched in one eye, but the operation proved ineffectual. The other, son of Mr. Thomas Walling, of Croswicks, in New-Jersey, now at Mr. Allen's nearly opposite the Coffee-House, aged Eleven, and who for upwards of three years, had been totally blind of both eyes, was instantly restored to the sight of both.

Mr. Barton, of Baltimore County, Maryland, has likewise been restored to his perfect hearing in one ear. We hear that since the 1st of August 23 persons have been helped in their sight or hearing. Of that number seven had lost their sights by Beards of Rye, and other grain, getting into their eyes in time of harvest, of these three only have perfectly recovered. This may serve as a caution to that useful, though poor, set of people, the support of whose families depend so much on the possession of that invaluable blessing, the sight.
