Full Text

Have I not a right to act for myself, and to express my own judgment? Is not Judge Wilkins as true a Jackson man as Colonel Johnston, and every way as well qualified for the office? Has not Pennsylvania as strong claims as Kentucky? By reference to the journals of the Legislature of Missouri, and the Senate of the United States, the Editor will see that I have not basely betrayed any party for the office of Senator; but that, in that charge and others against me, he has basely misrepresented me. I was not elected as a party man; but all knew my partiality for Jackson. I have in no instance hesitated to support the Jackson cause, when I thought it right to do so; which cause, as far as his unworthy example can have influence, the Editor is destroying. It is because I am disposed to lop off such worthless members, as himself, and because I will not be dictated to by the howling starving whelps that devour the substance of the Jackson cause, that such men as the Editor find fault with my Jacksonism.

Go on, gentlemen! I will not be a slave, nor associate with such; nor shall they presume to dictate to me.

A. BUCKNER.
