Full Text

The Governor in Contempt.—We understand the Governor having refused to issue his commission to Mr. Eugene Casserly, recently declared by the Supreme Court, Printer of the State, an alternative mandamus was directed by the District Court to the Governor to show cause why a peremptory mandamus should not issue. To this no return was made, and the Court thereupon issued a peremptory mandamus to compel the Governor to issue his commission to said Casserly. This also was disregarded on the ground that the Judiciary had no right to interfere with the Executive—upon which the Court fined Gov. McDougal $1000 for contempt, and enjoined the Comptroller from paying him so much of his salary as would satisfy the fine.—S. F. Herald.
