April 30. A noble Peer went to L--d N--th last Week, and after much Conversation bid him take care how he walked, & to be very cautious, as he was surrounded with Enemies, who hated and envied him, naming B--e, B--e. &c. and all the N. Americans.---Lord N--th coolly answered, "My Lord, I took the Helm in a hard Gale of Wind, determined to Steer this Country thro' every Difficulty as far as possibly I could, at the Hazard of my Life and the Destruction of the sweet Society of Family and Friends. As to your B--s and B.-s it is well known they and their Masters both have often made Offers of serving under me; but they cannot be trusted : I hold them in Contempt : And as to the Americans, I mean Nothing but what is fair."
