Last G. I. Leaves Australia

SYDNEY, Australia. (AP) The last Yank is leaving down under tomorrow night.

Capt. Robert W. Metcalf, who lived in Elmira, N. Y., has been here six years. When he arrived in 1943, there were 1,000,000 American troops in this country.

Since September, Metcalf has been the only wartime member of the U. S. army still on duty in Australia. He has been on loan to the state department, cleaning up surplus war material as representative of the foreign liquidation commission.

That job now is finished.

Metcalf will take back to the U. S. the Sydney girl he married and their 18-month-old daughter.
