Fifty-four new cases of tuberculosis were discovered in field clinic examinations during December, Dr. Lewis L. Anderson, Division of Tuberculosis Control reported today to Dr. Felix J. Underwood, state health officer.
Pointing out that these new cases comprise about 10 per cent of patients examined Dr. Anderson said that approximately the same percentage holds in the number of heretofore unknown cases of tuberculosis discovered from the 259 ultra referred to the sanatorium during the month by private physicians.
Stating that modern tuberculosis control puts the emphasis on discovery of new cases Dr. Anderson explained that with treatment and education about their infection these people will no longer be the means of passing tuberculosis on to others.
New Cases brought to light by Dr. Anderson and his staff during December were found in clinics held in Union, Lafayette, Marshall, Kemper, Winston, Neshoba, Clay, Oktibbeha, Pike and Hinds Counties.
