Golden Gate Quartet At City Auditorium Today
The Golden Gate Quartet, which is generally credited with the popularization of the Negro spiritual and folk music, will headline this afternoon's giant gospel singing festival featuring the Caravan Singers, Radio Four, Boyer Brothers, R. S. B. Singers and the Five Trumpets at the City Auditorium.
Promoter Herman Nash is expecting one of the largest crowds of the year for this Easter Sunday spiritual singing which has programmed some of the nation's outstanding recording artists.
The Golden Gate Quartet, tabbed the Grand Daddy of quartets will be heard in 'Wade In The Water,' 'He Never Said A Mumbling Word,' 'Joshua,' 'Listen To The Lamb,' 'Nicodemus' and 'Swing Down, Chariot.'
The Caravans, newest recording sensations on wax, will sing 'Get Away Jordan,' 'He'll Be There,' 'Think of His Goodness,' 'Tell The Angels,' and 'Count Your Blessings.'
The Boyer Brothers, who hail from Bethune Cookman, founded by Mrs. Mary McLeod Bethune, will be heard in 'Oh Lord, Stand By Me,' 'Step By Step,' 'Jesus Savior Pilot Me' and 'Nothing Can Change Me.'
The Eastern gospelfest will be further enlivened by the Radio Four singing 'Sending Up This Prayer,' 'Never Too Late,' 'Why Not Tonight,' and 'Blood Done Signed My Name.'
The Five Trumpets will sing 'Bread of Heaven,' 'Tone The Bell' and other favorites.
The R. S. B. Singers will heard in their hit recordings of 'Father I Pray' and 'Witness.'
Doors open today promptly at 2 p. m.
