FROM THE KENTUCKY MONITOR.

PREMATURE OPPUGNATION.

Some persons, it seems, have already turned their attention to the important subject of the next election of President. But little more than one quarter of Mr. Monroe's term has expired, and yet some persons are already beginning to contrive means to prevent his re-election. Take care, gentlemen, you may yet have cause to regret your precipitate oppugnation. It is not impossible that you, who are now hinting your doubts of Mr. Monroe's sincerity, capacity and qualifications, may turn about and become his warmest eulogists.—Should Mr. Adams be put out of office, and some more consistent, genuine republican be made "heir apparent" in his stead; what a change would instantly be wrought in the character of Mr. Monroe! He would forthwith become all that is great, and good, and wise, and patriotick—opposition to him would then be pronounced opposition to the principles of our free Constitution, and a willingness to support his administration would be regarded, as it was in 1816, as a sure and unequivocal test of republicanism. Take care, gentlemen, or your own words may in this instance (as they have heretofore) rise up to condemn you.
