Great Foot Race.—The great match against time was decided on Monday se'nnight, on Acton Bottom, and the powers of the pedestrian astonished the amateurs. It seems that this Old Tom, but little known in London, was a soldier in the Devon militia, and gave Old Time a specimen of his qualifications. His name is Jenkins: and col. Barton matched him for 200 guineas, with capt. Barclay, to do 15 miles in an hour and 34 minutes and an half, he having performed the distance on Finchly commons a few weeks since in 1 hour and 35 minutes. In this match he kept before time every inch of ground. He did 10 miles in one hour and half a minute, and performed the task of 15 miles in 1 hour and 31 minutes. Betting before starting 3 and 4 to 1 on time. This man is decidedly the best pedestrian of the day, and considering that the rain fell heavily during the race, the performance rivals any thing of the sort on record. The match was run on a mile of ground.
