Cape Francois, is said to be quite deserted by the male part of the inhabitants—being divided between two parties, at the head of one of which is Lavaux, they were apprehensive some disaster might occur, while each party was in the town—they, therefore, both left it, and took to the fields.
Gen. Toussaint, had marched from Gonaives, at the head of a considerable body of troops, to aid Lavaux to restore order.
Leogane, has certainly been attacked by the English—in which they have been repulsed with loss.
Some accounts mention their loss at 8 or 900. But we are desired to say,
"We have authority for asserting, That the loss of the English, was only one officer and three privates, killed."
