UP FROM GEORGIA
THOMAS JEFFERSON FLANAGAN
Dogwood Trees
Scattering incense in the Georgia breeze,
Here're the snow white dogwood
trees;
Dogwood trees that know the spring
The homely note the thrushes sing:
And - wading in their fluffy seas
Praise God for the Dogwood trees.
As a little ploy-boy, I saw them spread
Their umbrellas over Stewart County's head
And saw them mount the singing sky
Where God pitched Lumpkin's hills so high
And. Usher's mill-pond from its freeze
Handed God some Dogwood trees.
