The Republicans of Sussex county met
on Tuesday. The attendance was small
and the enthusiasm smaller. Jacob
Moore, Esq., and Levi C. Bird, Esq., addressed the scanty crew in the court house.
The following ticket was nominated:
For Sheriff, Benj. B. Jones.
For Coroner, Stephen H. Warrington,
For Senator, Dr. H. D. Houston.
For Representatives, J. W. Morley, Cedar Creek; W. W. Sharp, Nanticoke; H.
W. Cannon, N. W. Fork; W. B. Richards
Little Creek; John T. Long, Dagsboro
John Wilgus, Baltimore; Jonathan Moore,
Broad Creek.
Levy Court, Josiah E. Owens, Little
Creek; Wm. S. Warrington, Broad
Creek; David E. Wolfe, Broadkiln;
Isaac B. Short, Gumboro; John H. Johnson, Cedar Creek; Ed. G. Pepper, George-
town; Isaiah Long, Baltimore; Henry
P. Wolfe, Lewes and Rehoboth.
The announcement of the ticket fell
still-born upon the people and the cold
and disaffected Democrats freely expressed their disgust at it and willingness to support the regular Democratic ticket, notwithstanding they were not fully satisfied
with it. The negroes did not appear as
deleates, but were given a treat, and a
more disorderly crowd never was seen in
Georgetown at so small a meeting. It is
a very sickly time for Republicans in Sussex.—Sussex Journal.
