Defeat of Blake,--Fall of Saguntum.

The Commercial Advertiser contains translations from Paris papers to the 14th ult. of the operations of the French army in Spain. The first is a letter from Count Suchet, dated at the camp Murviedro, Oct. 25, 1811. He particularizes the difficulties he had encountered in his operations before Saguntum, in rendering the breach practicable, during which time Gen. Blake had been joined by 5000 troops under Gen. Mahy, and others, to the amount of 27,000 foot and 3000 cavalry. On the 14th of Oct., he says, this corps took post upon the heights, supporting its right by the castle, flanked by the English fleet, and its left on the side of Liria--On the 25th, at 8 o'clock says Suchet my batteries were attacked and obliged to give ground--soon after 6000 men attacked my right. I then determined to break through the enemy's centre: but I had no sooner quitted a height than 2000 cavalry and 8000 infantry came to take my place. The battle soon became general, both sides alternately gave way--Field Marshal Coro, Governor of Valencia, and Almeya, from Cadiz, are wounded and made prisoners. Suchet gives a very minute detail of his operations; he says his loss was only 120 killed including 20 officers, and 390 wounded, including 40 officers, among the latter is Gen. Paris--The loss of the enemy he says, in killed, wounded and prisoners is SIX THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED men--and the result is the victory of Saguntum put in the power of the Emperor 439 prisoners of whom 250 are officers 40 Cols and Lt Cols 2 Field Marshals. 6 pieces of cannon, 8 caissons, 35 cartouch boxes, 4200 English muskets, and 4 pair of colors. Suchet on the 27th of October sent into the Governor of Saguntum, his terms for the capitulation of the place, agreeably to the honors of war, which were accepted. The battle lasted Seven hours; and, as appears from these details, it was as bravely contested an engagement as any that has been fought during the present war with Spain. The number of troops engaged on each side was more than 20,000. Several of the principal officers of the French army were severely wounded; and the commander in chief (Count Suchet) received a ball in his shoulder. The battle was fought at Murviedro, in the northern part of the province of Valencia. Gen. Blake went to that part of the province to relieve the important fortress of Saguntum, which had been for some time besieged by the French. On his arrival the general battle ensued; and the morning after the defeat the fortress surrendered. In the course of these disasters, the French made 3000 prisoners. The number of killed and wounded on the Spanish side is not distinctly stated.
