Full Text

House Breaking in Pleasant Valley -In the town of Hampton, in this county, is a beautiful, large, and fertile valley, called Pleasant Valley, where are many fine farms and good farmers. A robbers' raid was made there the other night, but with poor success. On Wednesday night four houses were entered, viz: Robinson Silvis', where the robbers got $9: R. R. Richards'. where they got $30; Fred Smith's. where the robbers came near getting a charge of buck. shot from a double barreled gun, and only avoided it by taking to their heels-and Fred Shrom's, where they helped themselves to lunch and found nothing they cared to steal. Money seems to have been their object, but the farmers of that fine valley are not going to leave much of that article "laying around loose" for house breakers to gobble up. The next night (Thursday) the house of Mr. Wesley Bisant was visited. They failed to gain access, but staid about the premises for some two hours. They dared not try to force a door or window. if they had they may be assured that somebody would have got hurt. The same night the house of Moses Garland was entered and rummaged, but the robbers finding nothing they wanted, left. All of these six houses are in Pleasant Valley. We again caution all housekeepers to be always prepared with the most approved fire-arms, well loaded, and be sure and shoot down, on sight any person seen prowling about their premises at unusual hours and under suspicious circumstances.-Rock Island Argus.
