"Fawning"

FAWNING IS INJURIOUS to colored Americans because it leads the dominant group to believe that colored people lack intelligence enough to know that they are denied their fundamental rights as American citizens. There are thousands of them who lack a proper appreciation of what are the rights of the American colored man. It is dangerous and exceedingly injurious to colored Americans to permit themselves to accept, without vigorous protest, injustice of any kind. When we laud and extol those who have denied us our basic rights, we prove that we do not object to being treated unfairly. Colored Americans must stop thinking that a special favor has been conferred upon them simply because they are given a little of what is due them. They have fought and died and worked for America. Anything less than full equality as American citizens is not enough. And colored Americans who are real men and women will never accept less lying down.
