C., N. & L. STOCK MONEY DISTRIBUTED

PROCEEDS FROM NO. 1 GO TO HOSPITAL.

No. 9 Money Goes To Schools of District-Amount Each School Gets.

The money coming from the stock which the townships in Newberry county had in the C., N. and L Railroad has been distributed. The proceeds from sale of stock of No. 1 township has been voted to be given to the hospital and the check has been turned over to the hospital amounting to $11,789.33.

The amount in No. 9 township was $17,734.21, and was by vote of the people turned over to the schools of the township and Treasurer Schumpert has distributed it according to enrollment of the pupils in that township in the various schools. He apportioned to each pupil $137.2617, which is considerably more than we have been in the habit of apportioning per pupil, and several of the districts will be greatly benefited by this money and will get out of the hole.

The following is the amount received by each district and also the number of children in the school who reside:

St. Lukes. District No. 13. $17,734.22

The reason some districts get more than others is that there are more children in these districts who reside in No. 9 township. And some of the district have large negro enrollment and some very few negroes Little Mountain, for instance, has a good many children in school who live in No. 10 township, and some live in the new territory that came in from Lexington.
