HINTS FOR HOTEL MEN.
Toronto is the scene of the annual convention of the hotel keepers of North America, and the Globe of that city cannot refrain from wondering what these visitors talk about and what they do at their meetings. It suggests a few topics for study which it fears the convention delegates may overlook.
"Why not discuss methods of sound-proofing rooms," it asks. "Why not devise ways and means of preventing chambermaids from broadcasting and house-wrecking at 5:30 a. m. just outside one's door? Why not eradicate some of the annoying foibles of waitresses and waiters?"
Other interested parties might add a few suggestions, such as, why not study ways to provide jazz music for those who must have it with their food and beautiful quiet for those patrons who loathe jazz? Why not find a way to protect both patrons and management from going broke instead of protecting only the latter as at present?
After all, however, it is easy to be critical. The traveler of today may have to pay more than his predecessors of pioneer days for over-night accommodations, but he also gets a good deal more in service and comfort and a certain amount of splendor, unnecessary but usually gratifying to the average guest's feelings.
