A RED LETTER YEAR IN BUSINESS
With a big fruit crop, a good hop crop (it will not be as large as we had hoped) with other good crops, and fair prices for some (if wheat, wool and pork are down) there will be fairly good business conditions for the next four months.
Now we have had a good state fair week, and while this part of Oregon is not as prosperous as eastern Oregon, the prospects for a good trade warrants each merchant in pushing his trade to the utmost.
Tell the people of your bargains. He never asked for trade amiss who asked for it right. Clean the shelves of old stock and turn it into cash. That is what the wide-awake merchant will do for the next few months. It is far better to carry over dollars in the bank than old stock on the shelves.
The Journal will push hard to wind up the best year's business it has ever done in Oregon. It believes in the church of the best licks in business matters. It will put additional canvassers in the field to place its daily and weekly in every home possible. In spite of the Presidential election, which generally depresses business, every Salem merchant can extend his trade in the next few months.
