Full Text

On hearing of Mr. PITT's Resignation.

Hark! from the distant Shores, a dreadful Groan,
Sure! some great Monarch of the Earth is gone
Or Prussia's HERO and his Arms o'erthrown;
Ah! Curiosity, the Cause of all our Ill,
And yet the Plague, that must torment us still:
New Albion's Sons, I see impatient wait,
Big with Expectance of some awful Fate,
Then. Know, Great PITT resigns the Seals of State.

Has PITT resign'd! then Britons, dread the Cause,
Rouse and defend your Liberties and Laws:
Whilst airy Pleasures leaden Anguish bring,
Exhausted Honey leaves a bitter Sting.
