PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN REACH GOAL IN BIG DRIVE TO LIFT DEBT
The women of the First Presbyterian church upheld the traditional faithfulness of Womanhood in their drive for a Mother's Day offering of $1,650, reaching the goal and going even beyond, it was reported at a great meeting at the Sunday morning church hour.
On a blackboard placed before the congregation, Mrs. W. A. McCall, president of the Woman's Auxiliary and Mrs. J. F. Snipes, chairman of the canvass committee, checked off the squares from reports of canvassers, each square representing five dollars. When all were checked, the total was $33.35 above their goal for the week.
Following the report, Dr. G. S. Kirby spoke for the session of the church and A. A. Morris for the deaconate, telling the history of the work of the church and that the women had repeatedly come to the front in every time of need. In behalf of the officers of the church they expressed thanks for the fine service of the women which had made the canvass possible. The pastor, Rev. Alex R. Batchelor, expressed appreciation for the whole-hearted cooperation by the membership of the church and the sacrificial giving expressed in the successful canvass.
The congregation stood and praised God in singing the doxology.
