Boston, Aug 25.

FROM SPAIN.

By a gentleman who came passenger in the ship Huntress, which arrived yesterday from Cadiz, we were favored with papers, to the 11th ult.

The French continued their fire against the city daily, but with little effect.

The Regency had given the command of the Bay of Cadiz to the British Admiral.

The British frigate, commanded to Badajos. The French General Soult had marched towards that place, but on receiving the positions and preparations of the enemy at Arundel, declined and retired again.

The British advanced guards are at Durango.

OFFICIAL.

The British Minister in Lisbon informs under date of the 4th inst. that Lord Wellington's army on the 27th ult. had taken the forts at Salamanca, one by assault, and the other at discretion, and made 700 prisoners.

The French General Marmont was retreating on the road to Valladolid, with all the forces he could collect, except a small garrison at Zamora, before which place was general Urban. Lord Wellington's head quarters were at Fuente-la-Peña, June 30. Gen. Santocildes was before Astorga, which Marmont had ordered to hold out until the 7th of July.—The French general Bonnet, was much annoyed in his retreat from Astorga and his second in command, Gen. Gautier, was killed.

The forces under Gen. Bonnet evacuated the province of Asturias in two Columns— one retiring by the road of the Irisiesto, and the other by that which goes to the Coast. East of Oviedo. They suffered much on their retreat. The Spanish army in Galicia profited by this favorable circumstance, advanced and commenced the siege of Astorga the French having abandoned the country between the Esla and the Cea, the Spanish guerrillas had united in Leon and other parts, and were assailing with effect the rear guard of the enemy. Gen. Bowes was killed at Salamanca in the attack of a fort.
