listening patiently to a long, sleepy story Willy was drawing out, a quick, light tap on the window pane told them she had come back.
"I'm late, I fear."
She nodded brightly as she melted easily through the glass and stood on the rug before them. "Until I told her it was to teach someone a lesson, her majesty was a little doubtful about opening the third tear's secrets to any mortal—even to the Sleepyland Twins. The third tear, you see, is most precious—one of the most precious gems in the whole wide world, Fairyland and all."
She poured the third tear into Dorfy's waiting palm, then raised her magic wand and smiled.
The Ticklemouse sniffed the air. Willy and the twins sniffed, too. From the spreading tear-drop in the little girl's hand there came a soft, delicious fragrance unlike any they had ever smelled before.
