Total of $50,668 Received of $81,385 Total To Be Collected
CALLED GOOD RECORD
Considerable Mercy Taken In First of Month as Penalty Increased on Accounts Unpaid at That Time
To the first of March, when penalties increased to two percent on unpaid city and county tax accounts, a total of 62.25 percent of the 1932 tax levy for the City of Henderson had been collected, S. B. Burwell, city clerk announced today. Total collections amounted to $50,668.80, out of the total of $81,385 to be collected for the year.
The showing is considered a good record, and especially so in view of economic conditions and the tightness of money.
During the fall months a discount was allowed, but during December and January tax payments were at par, with neither discount nor penalty. Beginning after February 1, however, and during that month, the penalty was one percent. After March 1 the penalty went up one percent, and increases one percent per month for the next two months until tax sales are held.
The same regulations apply on county tax arrears.
Last year the city had a very low insolvent list when the books were informally closed after tax sales were held, and the amount now outstanding as yet unpaid will be materially cut down during the remaining period before advertising date.
