Full Text

Mr. Eden's commercial negociation with the Court of France is concluded, but no treaty is made. Certain preliminaries have been offered as the basis of a treaty; but to these preliminaries the parties have not agreed. The French insist upon the introduction of their brandies into England. This condition, which is the sine qua non on their part, is not acceded to on our part. The proposed condition, respecting the introduction of French wines into England, as the price of the introduction of our hardwares into France, was agreed to; but the brandy remains in statu quo. The negociation is ended, and Mr. Eden will shortly return; and it is said, that the whole is to be laid before Parliament this session.
