Makes the following announcement of its arrangements for giving full and perfect reports of the proceedings of Congress, which will make their Congressional Union and Appendix of great value to those who wish to obtain a complete history of the session :
"We have completed an arrangement for reporting the proceedings of the ensuing Congress with a degree of fidelity and fulness scarcely equalled by any establishment in this city. This department will be under the superintendence of Dr. Houston, who has been for a number of years connected with the press of New York, and who is extensively and favorably known as one of the most accomplished stenographic reporters in the country. His assistants are gentlemen of the highest ability in their profession; and, altogether, we believe we are quite justified in saying that our corps of reporters will be one of the most efficient ever organized in connexion with any newspaper establishment."
The New York Globe thus speaks of the arrangements of the Union, and of the merits of Dr. Houston. All we can say of the statement that the "Corps is superior to any ever employed at the seat of Government," is, then they must indeed be perfect, for we have known many gentlemen reporters employed there, hard to beat.
"We are glad to learn that this able journal has engaged a corps of reporters to record the proceedings of the next Congress, superior to any ever employed at the seat of government. The reports will assimilate to those of the British Parliament, as published in the leading London papers. Dr. Houston, of this city, who has established for himself a reputation co extensive with the country, as the best American reporter, is to have charge of that department of the Union.— That paper, therefore, will daily give a perfect picture and history of the doings and sayings of Congress. Ritchie & Heiss deserve great credit for the enterprise and liberality they have evinced in making the arrangement to give—what we have never had before—a proper report of the proceedings of our national legislature."
