Full Text

Extract of a Letter from an Officer at Fort William Henry on Lake George, dated July 6, 1756.

We live here exceeding well, and have every Thing that is comfortable. This Place seems to thrive, and to be in a likely Way of becoming a trading Place. We have Vessels and Storehouses raising and building continuing which makes all alive. There was one Vessel launched Yesterday and another ready to be launched in a few Days; and two or three more to go up immediately. We have Scouts going out daily, in order to discover our potential Enemies, the French and Indians, who are continually lurking about us; but we hope, by Divine Assistance, to put an End to their blood-thirsty Designs.
