Mr. Don Anderson (Associate Warden) and Captain T.E. Eckerstrom attended the 17th annual Central Deputy Wardens' Association convention, which this year, was held on June 20, 21 and 22 at Lincoln, Nebraska.

The participating midwestern states for the three day affair were: Nebraska, N. Dakota, S. Dakota, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Montana, Illinois, and Minnesota.

Association members from all types of correctional institutions hold their annual convention in a different state each year. Last year's host was St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Deputy Warden John Greenholtz of the Nebraska State Penitentiary had this to say: 'The effectiveness of these Deputy Warden's Conventions has proved to be a tremendous asset to penal work. Some of the measures instituted here have originated from these conferences. For example, there have been realistic and genuine gains made in the treatment program. These gains are not only beneficial to the inmates, but also to the institution's correctional program.'

Other guest speakers from Nebraska were-Mr. Robert Nelson, from the Attorney General's office; Dr. James Reinhardt, professor of criminology at the University of Nebraska and Mr. Lester Harvey, educational director of the penitentiary.

All in all, the convention was enjoyed by everyone concerned and it was felt, that much was accomplished regarding affairs for both sides--inmates and officials.
