As Commandant at Quantico, which is called by many, "the University of the Marine Corps," General Hart will direct the Amphibious Warfare Schools, Junior and Senior Courses, The Basic School, Marine Corps Aviation Technical School, and the Ordnance School, to name a few.
In World War I, after being commissioned a second lieutenant on April 6, 1917, General Hart saw action in France as commanding officer, Company "B," Machine Gun Battalion, Fifth Brigade. During World War II, he distinguished himself at Dieppe, France; Roi-Namur, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Island; Saipan and Tinian, Marianas Island (where he was awarded the Legion of Merit) and Iwo Jima.
