The Indianapolis Journal sums up the following evidences that the South are deriving comfort, if not aid, from the semi-traitors of the North. We reproduce a few:
1st. As soon after the adjournment of the Convention of the 5th of January as the news could travel to Richmond, the Dispatch of that city. the vilest and most abusive secession sheet in the South, copied from the Sentinel of this city a full report of its proceedings and resolutions, with an editorial expression of the highest gratification at the evident reaction in favor of the South, which the Convention showed had commenced in the North. The Warden of the military prison, Capt. Warner, showed that paper to Dr. Wm. B. Fletcher, with the exultant remark. "You talk about the unanimity of the North for your Lincoln Government! Now see here? Here is a convention right in your city, under your very noses, takes our side, and are not interrupted."
2d. The speech of John G. Davis, which, with that of Mr. Hendricks, the President. most fully expresses the feeling of the Convention, was copied with cordial commendation by the same paper.
3d. The Jackson Mississippian thus speaks of the speech of John G. Davis:
Below we insert the Speech of Hon. John G. Davis, delivered before a large convention of the Democracy of Indiana, held in Indianapolis on the 5th inst. We admire genuine pluck wherever found, and strange as it may seem, there are a few noble spirits left in Yankeedom whose courage cannot be made to "ooze out' by the threat of a despot. Hon. John G. Davis, of Indiana, is one of these. He stands out in such bold and refreshing relief from a nation of lickspittles that he is entitled to a hearing in our columns. Hear him! We copy from the Indianapolis Sentinel.
4th. Daniel W. Voorhees declared, the same day that Fort Sumter was attacked, that he, as a member of Congress, would not vote one cent or one man to put down the rebellion. He acted with Breckinridge and Burnett so long as they remained in Congress, and since has acted with Vallandigham, as dirty a traitor as ever crawled. He and Bright are identified, both in spirit and party movement, and the Convention of the 8th of January represents that spirit and gives form and direction to that movement. Hear what the Memphis Avalanche of the 5th ult. says of him:
There are a few among the many Northern men in public life, once considered true to the South, who still have the courage and consistency to hurl contempt in the teeth of tyrany, though fully aware that the consequences may involve a loss of personal freedom. Of this class are Messrs. Vallandigham and Voorhees. The last named gentleman made a speech in the Federal Congress the 21st ult., the tenor of which may be judged from the following Washington telegram in the Baltimore American of the 22d
"The speech of Mr. Voorhees of Indiana, in the House to-day, is regarded as treading upon the very verge of treason. Mr. Washburn of Illinois replied to his statement that the people of Indiana were in favor of a compromise with armed rebellion, by saying that the people of Illinois also would compromise, but only on the terms proposed by Grant to Buckner-'immediate and unconditional surrender.'
"The floor and galleries heartily applauded, and the knot of disloyalists who had gathered around Voorhees to congratulate him, suddenly dispersed."
