California Publication Features Delaware in Current Issue
The State of Delaware is featured in the current issue of the U. S. Buyers Digest, a California publication with national and international circulation. The article and photographs, many full-page, consumes 43 pages as a salute to the First State.
The Digest is a directory type publication listing businesses, farms and real estate for sale and exchange, according to the Delaware State Development Department, and is thoroughly read by those engaged in sales in those categories.
The article covers every gamut of First State activity and photographs show the City of Wilmington and its port; Winterthur and Hagley Museums; agricultural recreational and historic pictures of the entire area.
In its introduction there is a letter from Governor J. Caleb Boggs, who is also pictured, in which he invites industry and business to consider Delaware as a future home.
The opening paragraph says: "Diversified Delaware offers industry a wonderful opportunity for original plant sites and for extension of plant programs to bring products nearer to market. Not only are taxes on industry extremely low and lawmakers most cooperative, but Delaware having a type of citizen who learns quickly and adapts to new situations, lately has become "home" for actually hundreds of newcomers from nearby states, thus making a general labor market available.
"There is a shortage in some skilled crafts, as elsewhere in the nation, but on the whole, the First State does meet labor requirements for those who come within its bounds."
The state's beach area is favorably mentioned and its highway system is described as one of the best in the nation.
In summing up, the article concludes by saying: "This is Delaware, the First State eager and ready to welcome newcomers; lending a helping hand when possible; and always conscious that by moving forward it will soon be a link in the National Defense Highway system to help serve a nation that boasts the greatest assets in the world-freedom of enterprise and a will to work."
Much of the text and many of the photographs were supplied by the State Development Department, but there are also picture credits to the University of Delaware and the State Chamber of Commerce.
