&c.—As a specimen of the magniloquent,
we copy the following from the Danville
Olive Branch. It is the conclusion of a com-
munication to that paper from the owner of
some building which had been destroyed by
fire. We should think, that if there is any
power in words, the graceless incendiaries
would find themselves completely "rowed up
salt river :"
Now should the foul deed remain concealed
from the knowledge of men, yet they cannot
hide it from Him whose presence dwelleth
everywhere. There had not been any fire used
in or about said houses for weeks before the
ight they were consumed ; therefore it must
be arson committed by some black-hearted,
clandestine wretch or wretches.—Better
were it for him that a mill-stone were hanged
about his or their neck, and he or they drowned
in the sea, For be it known unto all men,
that you who have burned my houses, are
guilty of arson, committed upon one who
never treated you with injustice knowingly
or wronged you of one cent in all his life.
May a sufficient quantity of smoke and ashes
commingle and float from the heap of ruins
through the aerial regions until they touch
your olfactories, and cause a sneezing, and
you become rickety and find no rest; until
you confess your guilt and make me restitu-
tion for the wrong you have done to me, in
burning my houses. But if you will not com-
ply with the above, may your guilty con-
science cause a blaze of your countenance
visible to all men, demonstrating your guilt
until you expire.
Should smoke and ashes stop your breath,
And you be found to sink in death,
Hobgoblins on your grave may strew
Buckeye leaves and sprigs of rue,
And bullfrogs on thy grave bemoan
The one my three houses with fire burn'd.
CHRISTOPHER FLOYD.
