Intelligence.
"OLD IRON SIDES" SAFE.
New-York, April 21.—Captain Selby, of the
schooner Selby, who this day arrived at this port yesterday from Gaudaloupe, informs us, that on the
9th of April, in lat. 21, 4, long. 65, he spoke the
cartel brig Elizabeth, capt. Hayes, bound for
Annapolis from Barbadoes, which island he left
on the 5th of April, with 178 released prisoners
of war. Capt. Selby took from the cartel Capt.
Calder of New-York, and 14 others, who informed
him that the British ships Leander and Newcastle,
of 50 guns, and the Acasta frigate, arrived
at Barbadoes on the first of April, from an
UNSUCCESSFUL CHASE AFTER THE U.
S. FRIGATE CONSTITUTION, Capt. Stewart;
who, as the British officers related, ESCAPED
THEM IN A FOG.
Confirmation.—The sch. Ant, arrived at Baltimore
from St. Thomas on Tuesday, and reports,
that a few days before sailing (9 inst.) a British
frigate came down from the windward, and
stated that the U. S. frigate Constitution had
captured 2 British sloops of war (one of which
had been recaptured) and that the Constitution
GOT CLEAR.
