MONDAY, APRIL 12, 1802.
ELECTION.
The result of last Monday's election is alike honorable to the District of Maine and the other part of the State; and must prove highly favorable to the Constitutional cause in the New-England States-the firmness and unanimity of which States now constitute the only pledge for our national safety-the only barrier between us and those revolutionary scenes of horror which have devastated France, and manured its soil with the blood of its citizens!-Above those unmanly exultations which mark the triumph of party, and unwilling to part with the feelings or character of any of our fellow-citizens, we shall only congratulate our numerous friends and supporters on an event of such vast importance to the present and future peace and prosperity of the community. This election affords a very just criterion for estimating the true sense of the people. Party had struggled long, but its efforts were vain- Calumny had darted its poison against our worthies, but no vulnerable spots were found -the passions of the people had been addressed, but their reason set in judgment and decided without prejudice; and the decision will form one of the most important records in the annals of Massachusetts.
The following is a comparative statement of the votes given in this District. the present year and the last, so far as we have yet received returns.-The list will be continued until completed.

The Hon. Edward H. Robbins. has been generally supported for Lieutenant Governor, On the same ticket with Governor Strong.
The Boston papers by last mail give Gov. The federal lists for Senators. have prevailed in general at the westward -For Cumberland county, the Hon. WOODBURY STORER, and John Cushing, Esqs. are undoubtedly re-elected by a large majority -From York, Kennebec and Lincoln, we have not yet received any accounts.
