According to President Benjamin E. Mays, Roy Hunter, Jr, who joined the Morehouse faculty this year in the Department of Biology, has recently satisfied the final requirement - the defense of his thesis - for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island.
The degree will be officially awarded at the June, 1962, commencement.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, where he graduated from Parker High School, Dr. Hunter graduated from Morehouse the B. S. degree in 1950; and he holds the M. S. degree from Atlanta University. He formerly
served as instructor in biology at Morehouse, but for the last several years he has been teaching biology at Morgan State College in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Hunter brings to 22 the number of Morehouse faculty members holding the highest academic degree. He is the 87th Morehouse graduate to earn the doctorate. His thesis subject at Brown was "The Development of the Notochordal Sheath: A Chemical and Ultra-structural Analysis."
