MICHIGAN ANTI-SLAVERY SOCIETY.

This society held its second anniversary, a few weeks since, at Ann Arbor. A full account of the proceedings has not yet reached us. The Detroit Observer says—

The number of delegates in attendance was highly respectable, a large number of counties being represented. The discussions were of a dignified and interesting character, and were listened to with fixed attention by a respectable audience. Owing to ill health we took no note of the remarks which were made, and consequently shall give no account of them. A somewhat detailed account of the proceedings, however, will be given next week. We have also some remarks of our own to make upon certain subjects that came up for consideration, which we reserve for another occasion.

The members of the Convention were received and treated with becoming courtesy and hospitality by the citizens of the place. Not a circumstance occurred prejudicial to the fair fame of that beautiful village.—The use of the new and neatly finished Presbyterian church was freely given to the Convention during daylight. From fear of what might possibly happen, however, (with the kindest intentions towards abolitionists,) it was deemed best that it should be closed in the evening—a circumstance, which, we were told, caused not a little mortification with some, lest a shade of suspicion should thereby attach itself to the place, and it should be whispered abroad, that even the staid population of Ann Arbor had quailed under the apprehensions of a mob. We doubt not, however, that the manner in which the whole thing went off, has effectually countervailed any unfavorable impression which may have been entertained, and that thus the place has been redeemed from even the shade of suspicion which seemed to be cast upon it, and its reputation for good manners fairly established.
