LONDON, August 6.

The Russian Ambassador at Grodno, has made a discovery, which will probably induce our Ministers, with the approbation of Mr. Burke, to become parties to the partition of Poland. He has discovered, that the King, and the majority of the Diet, are infected with Jacobinism.

Notwithstanding this notable discovery, and the high tone of his last note to the Diet, he has in fact, though not in words, consented to treat with the delegation, whose instructions are not to admit Prussia as a party, or consent to the partition of Poland.

A little time may discover, that the Court of Petersburg, and the Polish Diet have been acting in concert; that all the hard words of the Russian Ambassador, were meant only as a blind; and that the King of Prussia is to be the dupe, perhaps the victim.

If the war should be continued for another campaign, which there is every reason to think Ministers intend, Mr. Burke would do infinite service to his country by reviving, what he calls, the cheap defence of nations; for, whatever else the present mode of defending the nation may be, it is far from being cheap.

It is evidently the design of the Emperor, ultimately to retain in his hands, and to annex to his Austrian dominions, the frontier garrison towns which shall now be taken from the French, at the joint expense of all the allies, but chiefly of the English. When he has done this, the first precious pretext for a quarrel with Prussia and England will put into his hands all that the Great Frederick won, and the power of united Europe will not save from his gripe the states of Holland.

Such is the glorious war in which we are so happily engaged!
