Neighborly Hint Meant Quick $$

A neighborly hint meant quick fast money for a Bladen County tobacco farmer.

Negro County Agent W. C. Pierce says that A. McMillian of Elizabethtown, Route 1, recently attended a meeting on the preparation and marketing of tobacco conducted by J. E. Jeffries of the State Marketing Division.

A few days later at the market with one of his neighbors, McMillian got a chance to use one of the points brought out by Jeffries. One of McMillian's neighbors had a pile of tobacco that didn't bring such a good price. McMillian asked the man what he was going to do and the neighbor replied: "Let it go."

McMillian suggested that they try the pile on another row. The price jumped from 57 cents to 65 cents per pound, immediately.

Pierce says the whole transaction took only 15 minutes and netted the man an extra $22.75.

Incidentally, McMillian's neighbor, himself, plans to attend any tobacco meetings from now on.
