Full Text

Caucuses and Conventions.—All the national conventions have heretofore been humbugs—their platforms a delusion and a snare. Unpledged electoral tickets should be supported in each State. Such electors would be obliged to vote for the best man; and if they could not agree, it would be better to let the election go to the House of Representatives than to perpetuate the old convention system which has shut out from the Presidency all the great men of the nation, and elevated such pigmies as Pierce. So says the Herald.
