The second annual Navajo Tribal Fair Junior Livestock sale was a tremendous success. Sold at auction were 5 fat calves and 16 fat lambs for a total of $3,006.41. These animals were raised as 4-H Club Projects by boys and girls all over Navajoland.

Grand Champion Calf: 105 pounds, $171.63. Richard La Rue of Chinle, Arizona, 4-H. Buyer, Navajo Motors of Gallup, N.M.

Grand Champion Fat Lamb: 100 pounds, $40.00. Joe Mineer of Window Rock, Arizona, 4-H. Buyer, C. E. Gurley of Central Motors, Gallup, N.M.

1st place light calf: 835 pounds, $459.25. Barbara Wallace of Chinle, Arizona, 4-H. Buyer: John Guest of the Merchants Bank, Gallup, N.M.

Reserve Champion, 1st place mutton lamb; 110 pounds, $42.90. Ron Landbloom, Window Rock, Arizona, 4-H. Buyer: Rice Motor Co. of Gallup, N.M.

Wayne Nez of the Shiprock 4-H Club was selected as the boy having the best livestock project on the Navajo Reservation during the 1961 Club Year. Wayne will receive an all expense paid trip to the Denver National Livestock Show in February 1962. The trip is being sponsored by the First State Bank of Gallup, New Mexico.

In the boys and girls Calf Scramble, 6 boys and 2 girls entered the ring with 4 calves in the scramble. The following 4 were successful in catching a calf, George Morris of Chinle 4-H. Wayne Nez of Shiprock 4-H, Eldon McCabe of Window Rock 4-H and Thomas Kuntz of Ft. Defiance 4-H The idea of the scramble is for the youngster to catch the calf in the ring, take them home and care for them and show them at the next year's Fair.
