RELAXES RULE ON TOURISTS WHEN VISITING MEXICO

Relaxation in the immigration regulations imposed by the Mexican government at Mexicali was noted yesterday, when Nicolas Perez, chief of the Mexican immigration service, ruled that the order requiring foreigners visiting Mexico to show passports did not apply to tourists.

Tourists can be identified as such, the chief ruled, by presenting a railroad ticket, automobile license, personal cards, or other means, which may show that they are not residents in the immediate vicinity of the border. City, county, state or federal government men will be passed on their own recognizance, the chief said.

Perez denied that the order requiring visitors to Mexicali to show passports is in retaliation of the action of the American immigration service in demanding that Mexicans must have passports before they will be allowed to enter this country.

He stated that when the rule was adopted by the American government, it also appealed to the Mexican government as being a good policy, and its adoption therefore followed as a matter of course.

Business in Mexicali is still practically at a standstill and business men in that city are wondering how long the present state of affairs will last.
