The U. S. schooner Dispatch, under the command of Lt. E. A. F. Vallette, 4 weeks from Norfolk and one from Smithville, N. C. came up to town on Wednesday last, for the purpose of being careened. The Dispatch brings several officers of ability, who are engaged by government to explore the coast from Cape Fear river to Port Royal, including the Frying Pan shoals. The commandant and several other officers, in an open boat, are now pursuing the business of their tour in ascertaining and explaining the situation of the most dangerous shoals at and near the entrances of our river. From the discoveries already made, and the talents of the officers engaged in this expedition, much information of importance to the commerce of our country may be expected.
