Phenomenon
A youthful Scotchman of the name of Leywood, who has been exhibiting in Kirkcudbright, to crowded audiences, is described to us as a perfect phenomenon in his way. He was born without either hands or arms, and with only one leg and foot—the right. On the left is a stump, to which is attached a wooden leg, and by means of this simple apparatus, he enjoys, when it suits him, the exercise of walking, though he cannot be called a great pedestrian. His forte, of course, lies in the use he makes of his right foot, which serves all the purposes of a pair of hands, though only furnished with four toes. With the great toe, and the one next it, he prepares and takes his breakfast, shaves his beard, sharpens his razors, washes with a towel, loads a musket, fires it off, writes a good current hand, and performs so many other feats that the want of arms appears to be a trifling deprivation.—Dumfries Courier.
