Mayor Martin Issues Strict Orders to the Members of His Police Force. Must Be Have or Go to the County Jail.
Mayor Martin has issued strict orders to his police force to see that drivers obey the city ordinance.
Yesterday Frank Anderson did not observe the law and he was told by Policeman A. N. Fleming in a quiet way regarding the offense.
Anderson began some back talk.
The officer took him to the city jail.
Anderson's services were needed for he was working for one of the best known wholesale houses in the city and was permitted to work yesterday with the understanding that he was to appear in police court this morning.
Anderson sat in the dock and was given one of the best lectures Mayor Martin has yet given in the municipal court.
The Mayor told Anderson that under the offense charged against him the fine could be made from five to one hundred dollars and a sentence imposed of thirty days in jail or both at the discretion of the mayor.
The mayor told Anderson that he would discharge him this time but if he ever came up before the court on a similar charge he would get the limit.
The policemen have express orders from the mayor to see that drivers observe the law. There is considerable trouble in loading goods on the interurban baggage cars. It is the instruction of the mayor that one side of a car must be clear while the car is loading.
If this instruction is not obeyed the driver will get a dose of Mayor Martin's prescription and the dose will be a salty one.
