A Terrible Accident. Charles Keating, a brother of the Messrs. Keating (stove dealers) of our city, met with a terrible accident on Saturday last. He was on his way to Winchester from Chattanooga, Tenn., and was standing upon the platform of one of the cars of the train which was going slowly, having just left Milnes depot, Shenandoah Valley Railroad. His hat was blown off and in jumping after it he struck the bank and was thrown back under the truck. Both limbs were crushed so badly that an amputation was decided upon by the attendant surgeons, which they proceeded to do on Sunday. One was taken off below the knee and the other just above the ankle. Telegrams being received by his brothers conveying the distressing intelligence, Thomas, accompanied by Father McKeefry, of Martinsburg, immediately repaired to the scene. Supervisor of trains Cook was exceedingly kind both to the disabled young man as well as to his relatives, rendering every assistance in his power. The latest intelligence by telegram this morning is to the effect that he has rallied from the effects of the amputation, but very weak and cannot be moved.
